No sailing club would be complete without some type of race activity. Amelia Island Sailing Club (AISC) offers club members the opportunity to complete in local club racing, as well as racing opportunities at other clubs in northeast Florida through our membership in First Coast Sailing Association (FCSA). Since all members have different boats, PHRF handicap ratings are obtained from FCSA based on the US Sailing Association guidelines. Applying the PHRF rating adjustments to the actual finish times makes the club racing more fun and gives everyone a chance to win.
AISC organizes nine non-spinnaker club races yearly, starting with the annual “Ice Bucket Challenge” in January, and the last race in November. We also participate in two inter-club races yearly with the Golden Isles Sailing Club from St. Simons Island, GA. These two ocean races, including both spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes, offer many challenges due to the varied weather and sea conditions. In the spring, the “Coastal Cup” is raced from Amelia Island to St. Simons Island. In the Fall, the “GA-FL Ocean Challenge” is raced from St. Simons Island to Amelia Island. For adventuresome competition with more boats, FCSA runs the week-long St. Augustine Race Week in March each year, with inshore and offshore racing for performance and cruising sailboats in both spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes.
If fun and good spirited racing competition is your interests, you will enjoy these friendly-competitive events.
