Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you cast off.

Do I need a boat to join?

Not at all. Many of our members sail as crew and connect with skippers through the club. Whether you arrive with a boat or just a love of the water, you'll find your place — on the water and ashore.

Will the club place me on a boat?

No — AISC is the connection point, not an operator. Boats are privately owned by member skippers who choose their own crew, so no seat is ever guaranteed by the club. In practice, new members who show up to meetings and make an effort to meet skippers usually find plenty of invitations to sail.

How much does membership cost?

Membership is a modest annual fee that covers you (and your family) for a full year of events, clinics, and socials. Current rates and details are listed on the Membership page.

What experience level do I need?

Every level is welcome. Beginners can learn through our clinics and crew opportunities, while experienced sailors can race, cruise, and mentor. You'll be on the water before you know it.

When and where does the club sail?

Year-round on the waters around Amelia Island — Cumberland Sound, the Amelia and St. Marys rivers, and the Atlantic. Check the Events page for races, cruises, and social sails.

How do I get on the water as crew?

Crew seats are arranged member-to-member, so being visible and proactive is everything. Come to the monthly meeting and introduce yourself, join the members-only Facebook group and post on the crew list, and let skippers know you're available for races and cruises. Skippers regularly invite crew from exactly those connections.

I'm mostly here for the social side — is that okay?

Absolutely. AISC is a social club first: monthly meetings with guest speakers, trivia nights, parties, and land-based gatherings run all year, and many members participate mostly ashore. On-the-water fun is there whenever you want it — never required.
